Liberty in Christ
By: Chris Gregor
With the holiday ahead, many of us have big plans for the weekend – taking a boat out on the lake…cooking out with the family…catching up on yard work. I hope in the midst of all this busyness, we will find some time to stop and appreciate the blessings of liberty we have enjoyed in this land. We are truly a blessed people.
Now, I know we can site examples of corruption and injustice everywhere, but that has always been the case. True freedom is a rare thing…and a temporary one. Not only must we pay the price of eternal vigilance, but we must also have the wisdom to walk the line between anarchy and tyranny. If we relax and take it for granted, we will lose it.
But God is gracious and despite our failings, He has worked to preserve our nation. It may be that the only reason He does so, is because of those that are faithful that live here. This is a heavy responsibility. It’s also something to be proud of. To live your life in such a way that others reap a blessing…this is the mark of a holy calling.
Which leads us into the topic of this week’s bible study. Scripture tells us that “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Cor 3:17). Although this does apply to political freedom, I think it goes much farther and deeper than that. Christ made us FREE and the extent of that freedom knows no bounds. But beyond the blessing, there is also a responsibility that goes with our “liberty in Christ”.
I hope you have a safe and joyful 4th of July celebration. And most of all, I hope we all come to understand just how much God has worked to make us free…and He CONTINUES to work.
